The Nappy Stockpile Strategy

Buying in bulk only saves money if you actually use what you buy before your baby sizes out of it. Here's how to time it properly.

"Stockpiling" gets treated as an automatically good idea, but a bulk buy is only a genuine saving if two things line up: the price per nappy is actually low relative to its recent history, and you can realistically use the stock before a size change makes it dead weight. Our signal system is built around exactly this trade-off.

How the signal actually works

We track price-per-nappy history for at least 14 days before showing a signal, then compare the current price against a 90-day window:

The rule of thumb: 4–6 weeks, not 4–6 months

When the green signal fires, buy 4–6 weeks of supply β€” typically 2–3 boxes depending on brand and size. That's enough to genuinely benefit from the low price without over-committing to a size your baby might grow out of. This matters most in the fast-changing sizes (2 through 4); at Size 1 or Size 5, where babies stay put longer, you can reasonably stretch further.

Why not just buy the biggest pack every time a deal appears? Because the largest available pack isn't always the best price per nappy either β€” see our brand comparison for cases where a mid-size pack actually beats the jumbo option once you do the division. Stockpiling on sticker size alone repeats the exact mistake price-per-unit comparison is meant to fix.

Putting it together

  1. Filter to your current size on the homepage table.
  2. Click πŸ”” Alert Me on your usual brand so you get notified the moment it hits a genuine low, rather than checking manually.
  3. When the alert lands with a 🟒 signal, buy 4–6 weeks of supply β€” no more, regardless of how good the price looks.
