When Do Nappy Prices Drop in Australia?

Nappy prices aren't random — they move on a predictable retail calendar. Here's when to actually buy, and why "on special" doesn't always mean "cheapest per nappy."

Nappies are a recurring, non-negotiable spend, which makes them a favourite category for retailers to discount when they need foot traffic or clicks. If you buy on the right week, the same pack can cost 20–30% less per nappy than it did a month earlier. Buy at the wrong time and you're paying full price for something you were always going to need anyway.

The three big sale windows

Woolworths runs its own, faster cycle

Independent of the big three events above, Woolworths rotates nappy specials roughly every 6–8 weeks per brand, usually saving around $9–10 off packs of Huggies. Our own price checks caught this in action: Huggies Skin Protect nappies were sitting at $14.40, marked down from a $24.00 everyday price — a genuine 40% cut, not a inflated "was" price.

The catch: a discount on a brand-name pack doesn't automatically beat the everyday price of a home-brand pack. Woolworths' own "Little One's" nappies run as low as 17.8¢ per nappy at full price — cheaper than most brand-name packs even after their catalogue discount. Price per nappy, not percentage off, is the number that actually matters.

A practical buying rhythm

  1. Track the price-per-nappy on the sizes you actually use — not the sticker price — using the table on the homepage.
  2. Set a 🔔 Alert on your usual brand and size so you don't have to remember to check.
  3. When the 🟢 Stockpile signal fires, buy 4–6 weeks of supply, not more — babies grow out of sizes faster than most parents expect, and over-buying a size is the main way "stockpiling" backfires.
